I am 38 weeks pregnant almost 39 and I have been dilated to 2cm for over a week, I have had very unpainful contractions for a couple of weeks now. This morning I started having knifelike sensations, in the same area where I feel discomfort whenever my cervix is checked , can someone tell me what is going on down there?

There is just a lot of pressure on your cervix now. If these pains become severe or don't go away, you should go to the doctor.

I am due on the 21st and have been getting these pains since about week 32. I called my doc right away, which I suggest you do as well, just to be sure. It turns out that mine were just a result of the baby putting pressure on a nerve down there. Very painful! It helped to try to change positions or what I was doing to get the baby to move off of that spot. Laying down and taking a bath helped. Also I have similar pains down there now from the baby's head pushing on my cervix. So, your pains are probably normal, but best to check in with the doc.

It sounds like your baby is "dropping" in other words your baby has probably changed into a head-down position and is moving closer to the birth canal. You may have your baby a bit early, but it's not so early that you need to worry. Good luck.

First off at this stage always call your doctor. He/She will probably tell you to come in and get checked. They may also tell you to lay on your left side and see if they subside. If it is "false labor" it will stop when laying on your left side. Not sure why but it does. Good Luck.

what is the baby doing with a knife while it's inside of you? babies are not suppose to play with sharp instruments.
