There are three branches of government.

1. Executive (President).
2. Legislative (Congress)
3. Judiciary (Court System)

Each has responsibility to provide checks and balances on the other two.

It is the system of courts which administer justice in the name of the sovereign or state, a mechanism for the resolution of disputes. The judiciary is the branch that is primarily responsible for interpreting the law.
