People tend to make judgements about people of any kind once they first encounter them. We take many things into consideration, such as clothing, etnicity, gender, hygiene, etc. Whether you lke it or not, you will be influenced about how you feel towards a doctor depending on the way they dress. Any judgements about the person after that will need to be determined after getting to know the person and their personality.
Think of how you see a person in a white coat with a stethascope around their neck...you automatically treat them as if they have greater knowledge then you, they have a "power". If the same person were to walk up to you a regular clothing and try to give you medical advice, you would look at them like "who are you?" We associate certain "dress" with certain professions, experience, knowledge and wealth. It's just how we are brought up to think.

'Course. The way they treat you is void of all opinion and personality, and I treat them that way too.
