Can anyone give me a reason why they think "Your Angel" made this into a racial thing??

1) hood is an attached feature of the collar which may be used to cover the head.
2) Abbreviation of hoodlum, which is the slang expression for gangster.
3) Hoody, modern amalgamation of the two terms i.e a gangster wearing a hoody jacket.
4) Hood can be used as encompassing word eg. brother wood, childhood, ....
