Generally, International students have an orientation a few days before school starts where they get to meet other International students, have a tour of the school, receive any information that they might need to know, and they meet a 'buddy' who will help them through the first few weeks. This allows for the student to be more confident on the first day of classes- you've seen the school and you know where your classes are so you can focus more on meeting people than trying to decipher where third period Calculus is!
If you are nervous or don't know if your school has such an orientation, feel free to contact them!! They are there to help you acclimate and have a good time!

If the school is used to internationals, there will be a kid assigned to that student to walk them around and help them find the right classes.

Otherwise, I expect it is rather daunting. But worth it in the end; the internationals that we have hosted really enjoyed their time here. the parent family should get involved with school if things do not work well.

It probably depends on if you're outgoing or not, and if you speak english clearly. There's likely going to be other students from your country there, if not in your class, then at the school at least.
