Well actually is it best to read them in a certain order?

I have not read any of his books, but they sound good and was wondering where to start.

No, you don't really have to read them in any particular order -they're all "stand-alone" novels. But it wouldn't hurt to read then in the order in which they were written:

Practical Demonkeeping (1992)
Coyote Blue (1994)
Bloodsucking Fiends (1995)
Island of the Sequined Love Nun (1997)
The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove (1999)
Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal (2002)
Fluke, or, I Know Why the Winged Whale Sings (2003)
The Stupidest Angel: A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror (2004)
The Stupidest Angel: A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror, v. 2.0 (2005) -- contains the same text as the above, with an additional 32-page short story at the end
A Dirty Job (2006) (awarded The Quill Book Award for General Fiction for 2006)
You Suck: A Love Story (scheduled to be published January 16, 2007, as a sequel to Bloodsucking Fiends)
Short Stories
"Our Lady of the Fishnet Stockings" (1987)
"Cat's Karma" (1987)
Other Works
The Griff (2001), a screenplay co-written by Moore and Ian Corson

I've read all of his stuff, except for the latest novel, "You Suck." I think he's great. Personally, my favorite is "Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal", which is totally hilarious and would also be a good place to start if you don't want to read them in the order they were written.

Christopher Moore Books In Order

No, not at all. The stories are all stand alone. If you happen to read a book where a chracter from another book shows up, it's merely a fun and funny cameo (like the angel in the Stupidest Angel was also in Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Jesus Christ's Childhood Pal) and it's not necessary to read them in any particular order. However, one or two of the books have sequels (Bloodsucking Fiends), and I read them in order. A Dirty Job was the first one I read and then I read every one after that.

No, his books do not have to be read in any real order. If you read "Stupidest Angel," though, you will encounter characters from his other novels.

The first Christopher Moore book I read was "Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal" and I adored it.

The His Dark Materials series by Phillip Pullman is really good; fantasy story addressing philosophical issues. Or The End of Mr. Y by Scarlett Thomas. And totally agreed with the person suggesting Kurt Vonnegut.
