Yes, provided they are given enough room it should not be a problem. Also you will probably want two bolivian rams (butterfly cichlids) as they are happier in pairs. I would think that a pair of rams and a betta in a 20 gallon tank would be fine. They use different areas of the tank, anyway - the betta will stay near the top and the rams will stay near the bottom .They should not bother each other.

The betta is an asian fish while the ram originates from south america.so they dont have any natural contact in the wild. They really dont know how to react to each other in an aquarium. If you have the long fin form of ram it may look like another male betta to your betta. which would result in a fight.

oh yeah for sure, provided your betta has a reasonable temper, and the tank is big enough. Betta's rarely find their way to the bottom of the tank, where the rams stay, will be perfectly fine.

Any fish without flashy colourful colors will do and is not equivalent to a Betta like a Guppy. do not placed Bettas with Fin-Nippers because Bettas do not strive against different fish that are not of their objective record so your Betta might want to get damage.

The correct answer is no. Both species are aggressive by nature and will begin fighting almost immediately. Keep the betta in a separate tank or bowl. You can place a betta in a community tank with docile fish (guppies, mollies, etc.) and the betta will basically ignore them. But cichlids in the same tank are a prescription for disaster.

cichlids are generally only compatible with other cichlids of the same size and some few other large species of gourami (cousins to bettas)

In this case ZOE is right, the fish use different areas of the tank, and should pretty much ignore one another as long as the tank is large enough and contains plenty of plants and hiding places.Of course the plants can be plastic. PeeTee

No you cannot place a Betta with any other fish because they will fight. I don't know how butterfly cichlids are, but as for one of the previous answers about you can put him in with a guppy, that is wrong because the tail of the guppy is big, and the betta will consider that a threat. Betta= solo fish, unless when breeding but then you must separate them.

no you dont ever want to place a betta with another fish in the same tank, it could get ugly. Bettas will attack the other fish my aunt had a tank of fish and she put a betta in it and it killed the other fish

DONT DO IT!!

yup,
just take good care of the ram.. they're really hard to take care of. They need lots of clean and soft water.
