It depends on what you are more comfortable with. With both of my pregnancies I had an OB/GYN and I loved her. I chose an OB because they are used to newly pregnant moms and understand that sometimes we get a little freaked out for no apparent reason so they can be a little more understanding. I can't say how many times I called my doc just in tears over something small but it had me totally wigged out. She was always patient and understanding with me. Try to meet with the dr and ask some friends who they would recommend

Many family practioners also do female health. It just isn't their speciality. You may want one doctor that can handle you all the time not just when you are pregnant or having "women's" issues. You should interview several different doctors and go with one that you feel the most comfortable with. If your pregnancy is complicated the family doc can refer you to an OB or other specialist if you need.
Call the office and ask the receptionist if the doctor is taking new patients and if there is a fee to interview the doctor. Also get reccomendations from your friends.

Choose an OB/GYN because they study about the women health and would know everything about you and the baby while a family practioner only knows a little bit to get you out the office so its best to go with the OB/GYN that way you know both you and baby are safe. Congrats!!!

you need an OBGYN, and you might prefer having one who's female. you'll have to visit her once a month, until the 9th month, wherein she'll ask you to visit every week, until you give birth.
it's gonna be fun because, around the fourth month, if i'm not mistaken, you can already listen to the baby's heartbeat... each visit brings something new. :)
if you're still within a few weeks of pregnancy, visit a doctor soon because they'll need you to get a transvaginal ultrasound before the fetus turns 12 weeks. this is for them to determine the true age of the fetus, as well to ensure that it has a heartbeat (ergo, alive).
hope this helps!

Choose a certified OB/GYN. Some doctors will focus their practice in obstetricts, but not be certified (mine is like that, but he is a wonderful doctor). But, if there was a certified OB/GYN around, I would choose him/her instead. Remember that family practitioners only had a few months of training in this area, while OB/GYNs have had a couple of years.

I would suggest an OBGYN ... they're specifically trained in obstetrics & gynecology. A regular GYN is just gynecology and a regular OB is just obstetrics. I like having a doctor that's trained in both ... OBGYN.

While you are pregnant (Congrats!!) (Me too). I would say an
ob/gyn, since pregnancy involves a Women's Plumbing and that is all an ob/gyn deals with day in day out. they are more like a pregnancy specialist. more focused i think.
