I think the stone comes from France,
( sorry can't be more specific), it is quite pale with some whitish marks in places

Place a single layer of brown paper bag over the wax and iron it. The brown paper bag will absorb the wax. You will see the bag turn dark brown as it absorbs the wax. After all the wax is removed use a degreeser cleaner and rinse well.

Found this... It is an answer to a person who said that he/she used a hot iron over brown paper to pull some of it up into the paper.

Keep up with the brown paper/hot iron technique. When that stops working, apply paint thinner on the remaining wax. That will dissolve it. Then sprinkle a lot of baking soda on top to absorb it. After several minutes, sweep it up and throw it away. Repeat as necessary. If some remains, or if the paint thinner stains the limestone, finish by sanding the entire piece with fine sandpaper.

Scrape of all the excess that isn't in the limestone Put a brown paper bag / newspaper / cotton rag over the affected area and iron it with a hot irn. This melts the wax, which is absorbed by the covering and can then be removed when you pull of the covering. You might need to do this a couple of times

Heat the wax up so it becomes a liquid again and place a cloth on top to try to absorb it, better yet try putting a cloth on top of it with an iron on top of that.

Try covering with brown paper and then iron over the paper. The wax should melt and be absorbed by the paper.
