Why would a company route an internet connection through a different city?

Our company has offices in several cities. They are all linked back to the flagship office. Would this allow a central source for a firewall/virus protection? How about logging websites & blocking?

I'm sorry to say that it's possible, you could being logging every website and if they want, they could block it. It's usual to make this in some big companies. They make a central source for a firewall/anti-virus, and even to "protect" their employees to visit some websites.
