just thier terminology in expression (ie sweet) better than being called a vegetable!!

Fruit! means he thinks you are Gay, if he says Fruit cake he thinks you are an idiot. So maybe being called fruit is the better of the two

people normally used the term "love" or "dear" but now that's deemed as not politically correct its changed to something more meaningless like "fruit" - its not gay its just a term of endearment it could also mean they've forgotten your name? be more assertive

I forget which part of the country this comes from, but is a friendly term such as 'duck' 'love', 'hinny'. Unless I'm very out of touch it certainly never referred to gay people.

usually when people refer to you as a fruit that means they think you are either gay or have gay tendancies.
