Me and this female used to be really good friends, even were roommates ( she was a horrible roommate too, used to leave my apartment a mess and let her dog shyt all in its cage all day). I had known her for over 3years and I thought we shared a pretty good bond. That is until she started using me and taking advantage of my kindness, but never being there for me when I needed her, so I decided that the friendship was over ( it got pretty ugly too). Long story short, we fell out of friendship, I tried a few times to rebuild it, but she would just curse me and ask me to forget her number, and so I did. Now, 3mons later I get a text out of the blue saying "Do you want my dog? If not I'm taking him to the home on Friday, because I'm leaving." Honestly, it's a good dog and I'd hate to see it possibly go to the pound and never come out. But I'm wonderign why me of all people was asked to take him. What would you do in this situation? I have my own dog now too?

Her dog is 2y/o, mixed breed not sure with what. Not a very cute dog, but has plenty of love and sweet. He's not potty-trained, but can be taught. Has a history of being abused/neglected. I'm just afraid that he may go into the "home" and never come out. Plus I'm not sure if the dog will legally be mine or if she'll want it back later. Plus we're not friends anymore, so what if she wants to see him?

If you want it and can care for it then go ahead and take it. If not, consider helping to find it a good home.

The dog is familiar with you. Please if you possibly can, take him in. I don't think he'd do well at the pound and his chances of finding a good home wouldn't be that great if he's an older dog and has issues with abuse and housebreaking.
This girl sounds like a real piece of work. Forgets your number and your friendship until, once again, you can do something for her. Forget about the favor you'd be doing her and concentrate instead on the HUGE favor you'd be doing the dog. I'll bet your dog would like a buddy to hang out with!
As far as her wanting the dog back, make her sign a something saying that it was a gift to you. Hopefully wherever she's "leaving" to is a long ways away.
You sound like a good, caring person. Good luck!!!!

Maybe you were last on her list, because maybe she could not find anyone for the dog. If you do want it, then take it and make the best home possible for it, but if you cannot due to your other dog or whatever reason, maybe you could find someone for her or know of someone wanting a dog. I just hate for any dog to be sent to the pound, when they had a home in the first place. This girl maybe got bored with the dog, or just does not want the responsibility anymore??. Good luck in your choice.

Take the friendship or ex-friendship out of he equation. Don't leave the dog just because you don't like her. If you can care for the dog and want the dog then take the dog. Sounds like you'd give the dog a better home than she would.

IF you really want this dog then you can take him to the vet right after you get him. Say that he was given to you and that you want to make sure he gets all of his shots. They make you come in like 3 times and then at the end of all of it you get a license saying he's your dog. That way she can't ever come back and say that he is still hers. As far as her visiting that is up to you honey. Maybe this is her attempt to patch up your friendship.

I would take the dog, if you have a dog it will be good because they will have another dog to play with them. I don't know why she chose you out of the blue though, but I would take up the offer.
