Ayurveda is India’s spiritual system of healing (curing), which has been practiced for thousands of years. Ayurveda means literally translated “Science or knowledge of life”. Ayurveda was originated and systemized by lord Dhanvantari, and subsequently developed and maintained by the seers of ancient times. For many years the teachings were recited orally and handed down through generations. Only in recent history was the knowledge written down in Sanskrit language of India.
Ayurvedic medicinal practice is based on "Atharva Veda". Ayurveda emphasizes prevention of diseases, rejuvenation of the body systems, and as a result extension of life span. Ayurveda through certain practices profoundly not only prevents and cures diseases but helps us achieve lasting peace and spiritual salvation.
Ayurveda emphasizes that every human being is an integral part of cosmic intelligence or consciousness, created through opposite energies combining namely purush and prakriti.
Ayurveda emphasizes on mind body unity, the mind and the body, are together an integral mechanism influencing each-other. The cosmic consciousness gives rise to the world we perceive through our five senses. Our mental and physical health are combined, there can be no mental health without physical health and vice-versa. In Ayurveda mental characteristics, or thought patterns are as important as physical characteristics for diagnosis of disease. All diseases are caused due to imbalance of mind-body harmony, and both need to be treated through various methods. A person’s life inner and outer must be in harmony to enjoy true well being. Therefore day-to-day life style improvement/changes form an integral part of Ayurvedic treatment. Ayurveda is preventive as well as curative method of treatment.

आयुर्वेद ) or Ayurvedic medicine is a form of alternative medicine in use primarily in the Indian subcontinent. The word "Ayurveda" is a tatpurusha compound of āyus "long life" and veda "knowledge", and would roughly translate as the "Science of a long Life". [1] Ayurveda is claimed to deal with the measures of healthy living, along with therapeutic measures that relate to physical, mental, social and spiritual harmony. Ayurveda is also one among the few traditional systems of medicine involving surgery.
Ayurveda was first described by Agnivesha, in his book Agnivesh tantra. The book was later revised by Charaka, and renamed to Charaka Samhitā[2]. Another early text of Ayurveda is the Sushruta Samhitā, which in addition to the Charaka Samhitā, served as the textual material in the ancient Universities of Takshashila and Nalanda. [1] These texts are believed to have been written around the beginning of the Common Era, and is based on a holistic approach rooted in earlier Vedic culture. Its conspicuous use of the word veda, or knowledge, reveals its role in early Hinduism and explains its popularity in India. The origin of Ayurvedic medical sciences is claimed to come from a divine revelation from Lord Brahm

Caring for your Body Type
Ayurveda sees everything in the universe, including human beings, as composed of five basic elements (or Panchamahabhutas): space, air, fire, water and earth.
These five elements in turn combine with each other to give rise to three bio-physical forces (or Doshas) within the human body- Vata (air and space), Pitta (fire and water) and Kapha (water and earth). Together they are known as Tridosha and govern all the biological, physiological and psychological functions of the mind and body, both, physical and emotion.
