Your wording is a little off, but I think I understand what you're saying... It is not religion that is the source of conflict, it is the realization that one's religion may be wrong. If Christianity and Muslim were playing Chess with each other, the moment either one looked away, the other would cheat. This is the fatal flaw in modern organized religion: each religion thinks that they are right and are not open to other suggestions from various forms of worship. Who's to say that any of them are right or wrong? It is apparent that religion conflicts with itself only in that it is flawed in every aspect. When you base a belief on faith, on a reality that you cannot prove or disprove, you tend to upset a lot of people in doing so. Christianity is one of the biggest religions in the world, yet it is not the only religion. If there was just one religion, then there would be no conflicts over religion itself. But there would still be conflicts between the state or the schools or personal conflicts. It's not just religion or the government that is the source of all conflict, and you can't go around blaming everyone for this; it's PEOPLE who cause conflict. It's close-minded fools that decide they are right and cannot possibly be wrong that create wars and deaths and televangelism. Religion is a source of conflict, but it's overzealous religious people that are the main source of conflict.

It always has been...or at least its been used as an excuse. The Crusades were supposedly the Christians spreading their beliefs through warfare but they were really about land. The major conflict between the Sunni and Shia Muslims in the Middle East is all due to religious beliefs as is the conflict along the Gaza Strip between the Israelis and the Muslims...again these could both really be about land.

Methinks religion is not a source of conflict. And of course the papacy was "Catholic" and not "Christian." The embodiment of a "Universal Church" and Popes claimed "Infallibility" and the term "Vicars of Christ" meaning basically that they could use force under the grace of god.(Hence the crusade) That does not involve "Christian." The 95 thesis was not only for protestants, but Christianity as well. (Technically you'd call me a "Lutheran.")
What I'm trying to say is religion doesn't cause conflict, MAN causes conflict. (Wanna debate on that?)

Yes. Religion is the oldest and greatest source of conflict even in ancient times. If you have studied World History you will find that most of the Major Wars and Battles that ensued both internal and international in different countries are spurred in the name of Faith called Religion.

sources of conflict are usually about matters that rely on personal feeling and opinion rather than "facts" this doesn't make them any less important or real, but when u have a subject that a lot of people feel very strongly about, and there is really little to say who is "right" there will most likely be conflict.

Consider this. The Jews have been persecuted for their whole existence. In Egypt they were slaves for believing in one god. Dur ring Roman era they were the object of ridicule, rape, and Crucifixions. After Christ, the English tried to force them to accept Christ with the Great Crusades. Americans first left Europe for religious freedom which lead to a Revolution. So I say yes, religion causes conflict.

Religion is the main bone of contention in my family and always will be! As a only child the fight was on EVERY Sunday, my mother wanted me to go with her to a shouting church, my father was Catholic and wanted me to go to mass, my grandfather was a decon in the Baptist faith, my granfmother was Methodist, so they left it up to me. Mama would take me to buy candy and peanuts I liked that, grandpa and daddy would give me money, I liked that, but grandma's church had the best Sunday dinners and pies and cakes and homemade ice-cream so I usually went with her. As an adult I now attend a non=denomantional church!!

Definitely! People have used religion as a means to threaten, control, and diminish others. Really, what should it matter that your neighbor is Buddhists if you are Christian. People's need for power and control has corrupted the purity of religion.

Religion is a guide on how to effectively get away with being stubborn.

Once man knows how to do that, look out!
