I've never been told this before, but I can't help but think that it might be loud in there while they have the ultrasound machine on my belly. I always end up feeling guilty afterward!

GREAT question...I felt the same way...but not because of the noise...because they press so hard on your belly to get a reading. I hate that! I feel like it pushes the baby around. And everytime I get an ultrasound, the baby moves around a lot. It makes me nervous. I don't think they would do it if it bothered the baby though.

Even though it's sound waves, I'm pretty sure it's quiet in there for the baby. The sound is at a frequency that we cannot hear, so I don't see any reason that the baby would be able to hear it either.

I do know that my little one doesn't like having anything pushed against my belly. She kept moving away from the ultrasound machine and every time we hear her heartbeat on the Doppler we can hear (and I can feel) her try to kick the microphone away. The movement and the intrusion of the machine may bother them, but I don't think they hear anything.

This is a rather individual decision that you decide for yourself.

Many parents have scans for different reasons. Quite interesting enough, many don't seem to question the relevance of an Ultrasound and how necessary is it. In addition what are the effects of ultrasounds on the unborn baby?

Research conducted by many OB/fetal medicine physicians indicate that there is fetal response to ultrasounds. An increase in movementthe This is a link to a story written by a Dr. Sarah Buckley, a physician who opted to choose to not ultrasound during pregnancy.

However, you should research and discover the reasons why any type of medical procedure is necessary.

Consider, that you are your baby's advocate from the moment of conception~

Most important is that I wish you happy & healthy pregnancy

Ultrasound doesn't harm the baby, but it definitely has an effect on them. My little guy used to run away from it all the time. He couldn't get far though =). Don't feel guilty, there will be lots of things that will be done with your baby for his/her own good that he/she won't particularly like. Wait until the first needle .....

I can't say one way or the other, but do you really think the doctors would use them if they would harm the baby? I never really thought about that while I was pregnant. I just knew I loved see my little one growing inside me. And now with him here it is so hard to believe he was the one in there growing and moving and kicking. My son is now 6 1/2 months. Enjoy the view of your little one. Doctors usually know what is best.

I wouldn't think so because if it was they would move a lot and my daughter really didn't move very much when they did the ultrasounds on me. But that is a good question.

No, it's on a different frequency that can't be detected by you or even your baby. If you can't hear it your baby can't. Trust me eveything is fine and there's nothing for you to feel guilty about.
