i dont know why people are saying use better water because i get the same thing on my cats water and all i give them is bottled spring water i think its because it just sits in the bowl. I know when i get it on my kettle i boil the kettle with vinegar and its gone like brand new try that maybe boil the vinegar and pour it in the water dish and let it sit for a bit then wash with a bristol pad like steel wool S.O.S pads.. Im pretty sure that would work :) works for me.

The best thing would be to used water, salt, crushed ice and lemon juice. Used to use that on coffee pots when I worked at a restaurant. Works great. Then I would suggest that you either get a whole house water softner system, a kitchen faucet water filtration system, or get the water cooler with filtered water. I used the last myself.

I scrub the bowl with an abrassive pad-never use harsh chemicals in the water dish. Glass,ceramic and stainless are better/healthier to use than plastic.

Use lime away or CLR jest make shore that you rinse it out super good like you are going to drink out of it.
