My grandmother went on a cruise and brought back some Cohiba cigars for my husband. He doesn't smoke...at all. I was thinking that it was illegal, but my grandmother said that the cruise employees told her it wasn't. At any rate - I looked up the value and its around $1,000 for them. If they aren't legal I can't sell them? What would you do?

Well, it kinda depends. A real Cuban Cohiba cigar is contraband unless it was brought into the country prior to the Cuban embargo.

If it's a Dominican Republic Cohiba, then it's perfectly legal (but the value would never be $1,000). And on that point, I'm a little doubtful that grandma bought $1,000 cigars on a cruise - unless she bought several cases.

At any rate, you might be able to sell them when the embargo is lifted (Castro is ailing after all). But until then, I'm reasonably certain it's illegal for you to sell contraband. Maybe you could invest in a humidor or rent one from a cigar store.

Good luck.

The brand is cuban, not mexican so they are expensive also here in Mexico, besides you can't find them here very easy, only probably Sanborns and OXXO. We have other mexican brands very good and cheaper, I recommend you the Montecristo's. But I recognize that Cohiba is one of the best brands worldwide.
