My son is 9 mths old and eats a variey of foods. I have always heard to wait to introduce tomatoes. He already eats eggs, and food that we eat, cut up really small. I am going to the pediatrician in 2 days, but just want to see what other's experiences are.

Well, FYI my doctor advised to give him eggs. He has been eating solids since 4 mths old. He was soooooo huge drinking just formula, he was never satisfied so my doctor and our pediatrician both advised to start solids at that time. He is now still above average in size but not as, well, "fat".

Well you know they have spaghetti and lasagna baby food, so that is probably milder than the kind that we actually eat. Gerber makes it, so if he is going up the ladder with eating the different colors, then try it, but try one thing at a time so you know if he will be allergic to any foods or if he doesn't care much for it right now. But he's 9 months, so there's pleanty of food out there he could eat instead. Because eggs have a lot of protein and that would be a replacement for meat, and anything that has carbs like grains and cereals... But definetly talk to his pediatrician to make sure, but you also have an idea too. But just don't get anxious to introducing him to different things, just go with the flow and gradually get into it.

I would say 1 year at the youngest. Tomatoes and tomato sauce are very acidic and can be harsh on the stomach. It was about that age when I introduced these types of foods to my kids (who are now 20 and 22). :-)

Just the egg yolks right? The yolks are fine, just not the whites. The whites can carry some kind of bacteria that your baby is not old enough to defend against.

MY SON WAS ABOUT 15 MONTHS OLD WHEN I GAVE HIM ANYTHING WITH TOMATOES IN IT. THE ONLY REASON IS BECAUSE OF ALLERGIES.ALLERGIES AND BABY'S MAKE ME NERVOUS.THEY CAN HAVE A REACTIONS SO FAST.WHEN I WAS GROWING UP I HAD SEVERAL FOOD ALLERGIES , SOME RANGED FROM HIVES TO MY THROAT SWELLING.I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE MY SON DIDN'T HAVE ANY OF THOSE ALLERGIES .I WOULD JUST TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT ANYTHING YOU WOULD LIKE TO GIVE YOUR BABY.GOOD LUCK!

1 yr. The doctor said that the acid in tomatoes is not good for my child. But that was my child.
