I am 20 months in recovery. I don't think he will ever forgive me for leaving him 10 years ago. I know he does'nt have to, but he is in pain. He thinks I did'nt want him, but I was very, very sick. Please, no mean thoughtless answers

your son needs to know that when u were 'sick' u were not yourself.addiction causes behavioural change n dependence where the only thing that kept u goin was ur addiction..n now u have realised that ur son is the most imp thing to u...as everyone knows brain is the most important organ of human body n that wat differientiates us from animals...so what could u hav done when u had no control of urself....
all the best in convincing your son...n congrats that u have overcome it.

If you cant get thru to him then maybe take him to one of your therapy sessions and let a professional explain it to him. Just tell him to have an open mind and come with you to see what is actually going on with you. Or ask your therapist for suggestions here. Good luck

Addiction is not a disease, it is a series of choices.

You can not choose to have a disease, you can choose to drink, smoke etc.
