Very good question. Large scale or planetary scale influences such as the El Nino are the cause of many local differences in weather from the norm. This phenom is helping to explain the very mild winter along the eastern seaboard so far this winter and the excessive precipitation along the west coast and as far east as Colorado.

Winter is not over yet. Last time we had El Niño there was a blizzard towards the end of winter.
