Broke up with my gf a month ago. We rented an apartment together, even after the break up we still live together as friends. But recently, she came home and started to move some of her things out, when i asked her whether she was moving out, she said she's just giving the stuff away. But after thinking for awhile i was still unconvinced with her answers so i asked her again, but this time she raised her voice and said that shes just giving it away not moving out. Ok fine i decided not to ask anymore. She didnt return home for a few days and i thought it was really weird so i called her, but she didnt pick up any of my calls. I have not received her mobile phone bills for quite awhile, so i called the company to see whether is the bill still being sent to my place. (bill under my name so i can access the account) And as i expected the address is no longer my address. Heres the prob, she still owes me a few thousand dollars in rent and she also has my digital camera & removable harddisk.

The reason she owes me a few thousand dollars in rent is because she was still my gf then and she said she was a bit tight on cash. So i thought i was fine for her to delay it for awhile. But i didnt expect her to just dissappear, owing me money and taking my camera and removable harddisk. Now i am a bit undecided on what to do. I know where she lives because i got the info from the mobile phone company. Should i go find her and ask for the money and stuff? Or should i make a police report? In addition, there was no formal contract for the rent, so i cant prove that she owes me that amount of money. But i can prove that the stuff belongs to me because i have the receipts for it. Can anyone give my some advice???

Only my name is on the lease, and so are the bills. All of them are under my name. Let her admit that she owes me money? In front of the judge??? She did say she would pay me back the last time i saw her. As for my stuff, she didnt steal it, i lend it to her. But that doesnt justify that she can take it and dont return right?

Oh and another thing, the landlord doesnt know that shes living with me, but i do have another roommate living with us, can he testify that she was indeed living with us? He also knows that she didnt pay her rent.

Ok what I would do is this, first question to you

1st- Is the both of you on the Lease. If so then in most states she is entitled to pay for either up to 3 months of her half owed or for the full term of the lease.

2nd- Now that she has left, She has abandoned the premises without your notice leaving you to pick up the Bills. What I would do is go to your local Court house. Do not go to her house she will simply have you arrested for Harrasment and its not worth it. Go to the court house and simply take her to court. $2000.00 dollers is a lot of money and in most states MA being one of them You do not need written proof that she owes you the money. What you do need though is for her to admit that she owes you OR admit that she stated she would pay you back when she got the money. :) <<<<<<<<<

Now before you go to court you MUST have every single piece of detail you can whoop up. And here is a list. Remember Evidence is Proof and in the court, who has the most PROOF shows for one, You are doing your job and two shows that you could possible be telling the truth because you have gone out of your way to grab all these facts.

Ok what you need if possible.

1st- LandLord stating on Paper that the Apartment was rented to both of you. Even though she might not be on the Lease, You have witness that She was moving in with you. This will help the Judge determine that she was in on the agreement.

2nd- If at all possible Proof from tenants meaning their statements showing that she was removing boxes from your apartment when you were not home. What this will show is that your missing stuff could have been in one of those boxes, because she was stealing it while you were gone.

3rd- Most Important, You never Bash her ( meaning cut her up and down ),you never yell or speak out of term in the court. Let her bash you. It will make her look bad infront of the judge and you look good.
Gather as much information as you possible can. Bills and etc. Make sure you either have copys or actual bills.

So what Im trying to tell you is before you go into court have your information gathered.

Graduated from the 1997 police acadamy.

hi Cara, i imagine you should chop up with this loser a.ss in the present day. This dude is thoroughly disrespected you in each way. i do not imagine he even imagine of you as his lady friend. like you stated, i imagine he sees you as his Ho! once you're searching for a intense relationship the position you'd be dealt with like you deserve, then i imagine you want to chop up w/ this guy and seem for a more effective perfect guy. This guy is in basic terms too immature and ghetto. i do not imagine he will ever change. i'll inform you each of the undesirable issues about this guy, yet i do not want to make you sense more effective worst than you're already are in the present day. So I in basic terms desire that is sufficient to convince you to bypass on. This guy isn't a husband fabric. he in basic terms isn't.

Go thru what she has left at your apartment and take anything of value. When she wants it back she can either pay you back what she owes you, trade your stuff for her stuff, or you can sell her stuff and keep the profit as compensation for your lost finances and personal belongings.

Well if i were you I would cancel the phone since it's in your name so she don't run up the bill. as for the other bills take her to smalls claims Court, but you must have proff that she said she was going to be responsible for part of the bills. good luck

It seems she is not happy with you. As you have already broke up, she might have other thought and left you. She should return the things she has taken with her. You can contact her and ask clearly regarding her behavior and if she does not respond forget her.

Is it worth it? Or are you having a hard time letting go!! Can you afford to just let it go and avoid conflict? If you can then just do that!! If not then don't go bankrupt trying to pay it!
