It may be time to throw out the CD Rom but not necessarily the computer, for just a few dollars you can replace the CD Rom in the PC

Once a CD drive starts not being able to read CD's, you need to do 1 of 2 things, in my opinion. You can put a cleaning CD in it and see if cleaning it will work -- or you can use the money you would have used to buy the cleaning kit -- and put it towards getting a new CD drive entirely (my recommendation). CD drives are relatively cheap nowadays. In fact, you can get a decent DVD burner for around $26-$30 from online retailers.

Sorry about your troubles,
Riven

Put the CDROM drive to other computers and see if it has same result.
Cleans the CD-ROM drive's HEAD. If still not working, yes throw it away :)
PS: Get DVD drive. Its getting very low in price now.

Try going into computer management>device manager>DVD/CD-ROM Drives>right tic on the CD drive>uninstall it then restart the computer. This will reload the drivers, they probably have gotten corrupt somehow.
