I waited to read the first Harry Potter for a couple of years. I was afraid anything so popular would be terrible, as bestsellers sometimes are -- but I loved it, and have read the entire series to date.

I picked up Eragon with similar fears -- that it would be derivative or amateurish -- but again, I found it delightful. The book is very readable, as is the sequel Eldest (I went out and bought it immediately after I finished Eragon).

I am 36 years old. I do read everything, but I don't like everything I read, and I liked Eragon very much. Pick up a copy!

Eragon is a very good book. It depends on personal opinion, but I like Eragon and Eldest better than the Harry Potter series. And I'm 23 too. It's almost amazing to find these books in the Young Adults/Teens sections of bookstores.

I read the book Eragon and didn't like it much for I believe the whole dragon rider concept is plagerized. In a high school english class I read a small chaper in a textbook(that I wish I remember what it was and the name of the story) about a small boy that wanted a dragon. In the end of the little story the dragon had chosen the small boy thus when he grew older he would become a dragon rider/trainer. So I'm not too sure if I like the book. Plus it has strong similarities to the Lord of The Rings seris. So I don't consider the book to be a orginal work. So many books these days are copy cats.

Eragon is a good book, as is Eldest, the sequel. I personally do not like the story as much as Harry Potter, but that is a personal preference (plot points, writing style and personal reasons).

I'm 24 and currently in a graduate program studying Children's and Young Adult literature, so as far as I'm concerned, you're never too old for good fiction, no matter who the intended audience.

No way, its not childish at all! I am a twenty three year old, middle school math teacher and I love both Harry Potter and Eragon. I wouldn't say that it is as good as Harry Potter but it is definitely a good read. It is a great fantasy story! I hope you read it and enjoy it.

I would agree with what the other two people wrote. It is not as good as Harry Potter, its not quite as elaborate or complex but it is a great Hero Quest style story. I really enjoyed the first book, the second one less so. I have found though that the middle book of a trilogy is oftn not the best because it is merely set up for the climax. I am curious to see how the series ends before i pass judgement. Its a good read though, definately worth picking up.

Another really Good book that is considered young adult but i loved is Endymion Spring its a great book for people who love books.

Happy reading
