More Cubans should be allowed to leave the country to visit relatives in other parts of the Americas.
It doesn't do any good to keep TELLING the Cubans that the world is passing them by. They need to see it for themselves. Only when you can see the world, and make the decisions for yourself (a Cuban) will the reality sink in.
There are people with jobs...you can afford buy a pack of 20 cigarettes all at one time... Foreigners are more than just tourists.
A high literacy rate is very good (in Cuba) but loses it's glory when compared to unemployment, no real newspapers, no modern conveniences, outdated technology.
Heck, even a doctor from SPAIN had to visit poor ailing Fidel. Maybe some of his literate medical students could finally go to Europe or the USA to study???

At first there will be a huge swelling of national pride in Cuba, they will honor Mr Castro as no other leader in history, almost deifying him. His brother will assume greater responsibilities as the de facto leader, but the search will be on for HIS successor, as he's no spring chicken either. Raoul will have a 6 month to a year honeymoon, then Cubans will start asking some serious questions about money and food and survival and such. No country is an island, but for Cuba that's exceptionally true.
The US can use the death of Fidel to maybe begin talks about lifting economic sanctions on Cuba. They could use our tourism and investment dollars, and we really could use them as an ally, since they are but 90 miles off our coast?

What WILL happen? Hugo Chavez will try and make a play for Cuba. He will present himself as a continuation of Castro, all the time using his intimidation tactics to keep people in line, making dissenters "disappear".
What SHOULD happen? Cubans should embrace democracy and elect a leader that can help them establish a government that can reconcile itself with the world at-large (not just a few countries here and there).

His brother will probably take over.
As for what should happen, the Florida Cubans should throw in the towel on their 50 hissyfit and drop the embargo.

After some infighting and bloodshed, an equally oppressive communist tyrant will seize the reins of power, and continue to oppress, imprison, torture and murder Cubans who seek freedom in their marxist "paradise".
