I agree with you but think that this issue can be decided with the facts. We should make up our minds about the death penalty using common sense based on the facts. Revenge does not answer the question.

Here are a few facts-

The death penalty isn’t a deterrent. Homicide rates are higher in states that have the death than in states which do not have it. Most people who commit murder do not think they will be caught (if they think at all.)

The death penalty system costs much more than a system that does not have the death penalty. Much of these extra costs come way before the appeals begin. (This money ought to be spent on victims services, which are underfunded.)

Over 120 people on death rows have been released with evidence of their innocence. Some had spent decades on death row. Speeding up the system will guarantee the execution of an innocent person.

“Beyond a shadow of a doubt” is not something that human beings can guarantee. DNA is not a miracle cure for wrongful convictions, it is not available in most homicide cases, and, as human beings, we make mistakes. Most of us do not want to see an innocent person killed. After an execution, the case is closed. If the wrong person was executed the real killer is still out there.

More and more states have life without parole on the books. It means what it says and is no picnic to be locked up for 23 of 24 hours a day, foreover.

The death penalty can be very hard on the families of murder victims. As the process goes on they are forced to relive their ordeal in the courts and in the media. Life without parole is sure and swift and rarely appealed.

Opposing the death penalty does not mean you excuse brutal crimes or believe murderers should go unpunished. It means you are using common sense.

No I don't. If it is wrong to kill someone, then it's wrong to have the death penalty. I could never volunteer or get paid to kill someone no matter how horrible a crime they committed. That would be too much of burden for me in life because someone else did wrong.

I would rather see life in prison with no chance of parole and no special perks.

Also, if by chance with technology today, they can prove someone's innocence -- it could be too late if the person is executed.

It also costs more for the death penalty then life in prison. More of a burden on the tax payer.

No I do not! For the following reasons:
1) It does not in any way act as a deterrant. Most murderers do not stop to consider the consequences of thir act before comitting it.

2) The 'Thin Blue Line' case (Texas, a death row inmate was released just hours before execution when a documentary team proved his innocence) and the release of 33 death row inmates in Illinois (proven innocent by DNA evidence) shows that our legal system is far from perfect.

3) Executing inmates is simply an act of payback. Nobody has the right to take a life. Especially when we have no way of knowing we even have the real offender in custody.

I agree with you, and someone on here gave valid arguments. The death penalty does not reduce recidivism in murder cases and never will, you should only take a life in defense of yours or to protect anothers. They are already locked up and put away. Keep them there for life, I would not sit on a death penalty jury, let them do what they want to me. I could not live with the responsiblilty or doubt. Just my opinion.

I believe in the death penalty only if the person can't stop killing, like a terrorist or a serial killer. All other murderers if found guilty should get life in jail. I don't believe anyone should get the chair, be executed or hung. I feel that we should stop this antiquated form of punishment and just give simple murderers an injection to put them to sleep quickly without undue suffering.

Yes, but I dont' believe that criminals who are sentenced to death should sit on death row for 6-7 years before their sentenced is served. I also believe that a murderer should be killed the way they killed. I'm sure everyone has heard of Susan Smith and what she did to her two little boys here in SC about 11 or so years ago. For those of you who don't, she placed them in a car and ran them into a lake and left them to die, then proceeded with a story that she was raped and the car was hijacked. I believe that Susan Smith should be straped in a car and ran into the same lake that she left her boys to die in!

I think it depends on the case. I am for the death penalty but complety against abortion. I do not think innocent people should die. The problem is I believe that Vengence belongs to God but if someone hurt my family I can't say I would be against it.

I absolutely do NOT agree with the death penalty.

If a person believes in the death penalty, that means that they don't have any faith in the justice system. They also don't believe that people can be reformed.

True, there are problems with our justice system. Maybe we should focus on making it better.

Death penalty is wrong. I'm glad to live in a country without death penalty.

I think the death penalty is deepest middle age.
For some bad people we would like death penalty,
but I have to say, it was wrong to hang saddam.

For every human, the death penalty is wrong

if someone were to kill someone i love i would think to the death penalty but, that's too easy for them i think. I would rather them suffer for a long time and then spend forever down below.
