The death penalty can be very hard on families of homicide veictims. They are forced to relive their ordeal over and over in the courts and in the media, while life without parole is sure and swift and rarely appealed. Some have said that they support the death penalty in principal but prefer life without parole because of what the death penalty does to families like theirs.
You should also check out a couple of victims organizations that oppose the death penalty- Journey of Hope and Murder Victims' Families for Reconciliation.

i think human beings are heartless when exacting revenge. sure they should be punished but killing them just does that; after they are dead, then what? as for life imprisonment, it depends on the prison but someone will say the prisons are horrible and when improved, a jail cell may be a better option than freedom. then again, what is the point of keeping them in jail? to suffer or not to be on the loose, killing other people?
but definately not the death sentence. they should think of something else.

I personally don't agree with the death penalty because it just seems like a very hypocritical punishment. Someone commits a crime by killing another so that criminal gets punished by being killed? How does that many any sense? What the murderer did was wrong, but the executioners are no better then he is. It does not justify the fact that killing is wrong, under any circumstances.

I have yet to see any evidence that the death penalty acts as a deterrant to capital crime. In addition to this the Thin Blue Line case in Texas and the recent release of 33 inmates in Illinois (all on death row) due to DNA evidence shows that our legal system is far from perfect. Therefore I am strongly against the death penalty.

Let's examine this from the other point of view. Now, we let the accused spend everyday, lounging, eating 3 squares a day, watching T.V. and living a routine that has everything but a meaningful sexual love relationship. And make taxpayers pay for this. Now we do this for the rest of his natural life to punish him for doing something that man can not forgive? We are forgetting that the reason for the DEATH penalty is not only to punish those who commit certain despicable crimes, but to show others that they will die if they commit these crimes,,, NO, I say KILL them, and make it quicker,,, No appeals, no pardons!!!!

He probably was not suffering so very much there on death row. And it was costing us a lot to have him there. I am for putting them to death. The other side of that question is why is it so hard for the officials to come up with a painless way to put them out.? Kevorkian i thought did a good of that.

That is a very hard issue and I am not sure if I could answer it truthfully because it has not happened to me. I am guessing I would fell better if they were dead, but I would want them to suffer the same as my family member or friend. Not just go to sleep.

I feel that if the crime is taking another life, that person should suffer the same as the victim, if he drowned them then he should be drowned, etc. I think sitting a criminal in a chair and gassing them is not enough they should suffer exactly as their victim did.

well the premise that prison is torture doesn't hold water, when you put many of these people away you are sending them to the culture they crave, depraved abusers that thrive in prison culture. they make the best of the situation, kill them, it may not deter anyone else from crime but it deters the condemned and is a just punishment, when there is no doubt about a persons guilt billy is pro death penalty.

I think that there is something terribly wrong about the government murdering someone, no matter what they have done. If the family has not come to terms with the murder of their loved one, seeing the perpetrator be murdered is not going to bring them any satisfaction. Furthermore, the perpetrator should have to be imprisoned for the rest of his life to think about what he did and to have the chance to rehabilitate himself. It is more expensive to execute someone than to keep them in prison for the rest of their lives.
