No, no, no. You're all telling tales out of school. An entry-level car is almost always a low-end luxury car that is priced to get you in to, for example, a Mercedes. Mercedes has cars that are priced way too high for the average person to buy, but if they offer a no-frills basic model that still says Mercedes on the grille, they can lure the average guy in to the dealership and get him started on a low-end model in the hope that as this guy's income increases, he'll eventually upgrade to a higher-level Mercedes. A lot of the major luxury and sports car manufacturers do this, such as Jaguar, Cadillac, Porsche, etc.

Every model of car has an entry level, this is the lowest specced and lowest cost variant of that model.

It does not necessarily mean cheap e.g. the 3.2 Litre V6 Porsche Cayenne is the entry model at £35560 as there are four models above it!

It means that the level of trim and equipment is the minimum level the maker does for that model. And higher levels are based on this but with more toys/better trim.
