"Punished" for mistakes? Punished how? And for what mistakes? If a political leader makes a mistake because their plans failed or were found to be incorrect, do you mean to imprison them or whip them?
It's one thing if they are found guilty of a criminal act, for which they should be indicted, removed from office and imprisoned, if necessary.
But for an incorrect decision? Vote them out or recall them.

Law is common for everyone and political leaders are not anybody special before law.. They need to be punished if they are found guilty for their act... there is no denying that fact...I would say that the punishment that they get should be even more severe since they have a greater responsibility than an ordinary citizen...

Do not vote them back to power. That itself is big punishment. Once enjoyed power, politicians will not survive long with out power and no other punishmentis necessary , because we treated with honour and respect when they enjoyed power and position.
