I am familiar with different kinds of milling, I wish you would have given more description with your question.
Generally, milling refers to grindings seeds of grass plants to make flour, or some other powder from the seeds.
There is also metal cutting that is referred to as milling. Milling will cut metal to make it the desired size. Example: An engine block is milled on all faces that have other parts mounted to them , the surface where the cylinder head and gasket is mounted, the surface where the oil pan and gasket are mounted, etc.

A more complex form of the milling machine is the Universal milling machine, in which the rotating cutter can be oriented vertically or horizontally, increasing the flexibility of the machine tool. The table of the universal machine can be swiveled through a small angle (up to about 15 degrees), enabling tapered cuts to be made over the length of the table.
