If a person has done things that would mean a huge and unwelcome consequence if they confessed their sins - can they eventually live with the shame and guilt or will it never go away?

if their confession would cause consequences they could not live with, they need to ask god for forgiveness and forgive themselves, and it does go away after awhile, if the person is truly sorry and doesn't do the same things again. sometimes if the consequences of an act, keep us from admitting the wrong we did, as no one wants to deal with the consequences.

LOL Jax's Mommy - that was going to be one of mine - glad I'm not the only one! Other ones... I confess that when my son gets up early I often have a nap on the sofa before lunch. I confess that I cave into his fussy eating and give him freezer food way more often than I should. I confess that on bad days I am counting down the minutes until his bedtime. I confess that on good days I keep him up late because I'm enjoying him too much. I confess that a couple of months ago I gave him Benadryl for an 8 hour plane flight home because he was screaming at the top of his lungs and the flight there had been hell on earth. I confess that one morning when he was in bed with me and I was half asleep and dreaming about cocktail sausages, he stuck his finger in my mouth and I bit it thinking it was a sausage. I confess that sometimes if we're in a public place where we're bothering people I have given into his tantrums even though I know I shouldn't. Ooh I could go on all day but I confess that I am neglecting my son to answer this question so I'll have to leave it here ;) * Oh and to Know-it-all Mel - if you overbath a baby you can end up drying out their skin. It's not necessary to wash a young baby every single day and going for a few days as a one-off here and there isn't going to hurt anyone. It is possible to wash and clean a baby without a full bath.

There is no need for shame or guilt.

You're reacting to a bunch of nonesense that has been poured into your head since you were 1 day old.

There is no need for either guilt or shame... you can be free of these negative emotions.

Feel free to contact me about the details.

Don't believe any of these idiots that have told you will live with this shame and guilt forever.

No the guilt will never go away. If it is that bad then you will never forgive yourself until you admit to that person what you have done wrong. You always want that hanging over your head. Knowing that you are not completely honest.

Confess them, but not to your boyfriend. Ask God for forgiveness. Then make a vow not to do it again!

You have to live with the guilt. If you don't repeat your actions the guilt will fade, but it's your problem, not his.

Whoa...I'm battling the truth myself. I feel like the only person I have to confess to is God. No one else is in control of my salvation. People are always going to make you feel ashamed and guilty, but you don't have to feel this way with God. I have to confess to him on a regular basis, because I'm trying to find what feels right to me. Forget how everyone looks at you, long as you have favor with God, NOTHING can come between that. I guarantee that!

NO it will not go away...
it will slither into other parts of your life and mangle all relationships. You will also develop a paranoid attitude that will be noticible to others. Not to mention the nightmares, drugs and drinking problems while you try to medicate your guilt.

It never goes away, so take a deep breath and confess, it may not be as bad as you are imaging it.
