Bit torrent is a Software where it connects you others, to download. It is also a file format, with the ending .bt.Chances are, its illegal what people use it for. My recommendation for B-Ting, is Bit Comet.

easiest answer is bit torrent is another form of file sharing. There are several programs out there that download torrent bittorrent was just one of the more popular ones.

you can get it at http://www.bittorrent.com/download.html

Just a reminder just like other file sharing programs you are still subject to all the legalities of piracy etc should you download copyright material ie songs you didnt purchase.

Simply put: instead of connecting to one other user, like P2P,
you are connecting to many other users, known as seeders, or
leechers, depending if the have 100%, or less of the file you seek,
by the use of a tracker site, like "demonid".
The tracker site where you get the tracker file, helps your torrent client such as "utorrent", keep track of the files, and discard the corrupted ones.
Untill you get 100% of the file yourself, you are a leecher,
once you get 100%, you are then another seeder.

It is a peer-to-peer protocol that allows you to download movies music etc from other users. Depending on the country you are in using it might be illegal :-)
