What are the contributions of servicemen to families and the nation?

OK - There are several divisions of the Military. Navy, Army, Airforce, Marines and Coast Gaurd. Each one of the branches protects different areas. For instance, the Navy, protects our waters. Above and below the surface, for you have surface ships and submarines. So for each serviceman, his contribution would be a little different. The main goal of each serviceman, is to protect us physically, and our rights to this free nation and everything it stands for. So whether it be family or the nation, the contribution is the same. I would suggest to you, that if this is a group project, maybe each one of you could take one of the armed forces, and tell what each div. contributes. I personally believe that the families of the military contribute alot as well. For the Military are very underpaid. When you take into account all of the time they put in to serving there country, well, when you divide the number of hours that they "worked" into their pay, they only work for 4 to 5 dollars an hour, depending on their rate and rank. It is one of the most important jobs a person can have, and the most underpaid job. So the families tolerate alot. They never know where there loved one is, he could be called away from his duty station at any time, and leave his family for extended periods of time. There are so many contributions, it would be tough to list them all here. I think it would be great if in your project, you were each able to interview a serviceman from each division, whether thru email or in person. I would love this project, give it your all, these men and women deserve it. Good luck!

I am currently deployed and serving in the Military. I know that it sounds kind of obvious but the military in large keeps America safe. I feel almost stupid saying this because it is so obvious. Servicemen also provide much needed aid in times of natural disasters. They also many times provide an environment that is financially stable for children to grow up in. The service also provides very usefull training for many citizens that use that training in the civilian world after they retire or their contract is up.
