It's a code to wake up the guy hiding behind the curtains. It difficult to tell where a knock comes from, and easy to knock the table with a knee to scare suckers and the hard-of-thinking.

Not really so stupid if you have ever come in contact with a "ghost." I call them demons, but whatever there are manifestations around. When you find one the temp. drops to icy. weird.
