A friend of mine gave me her used I-pod. This is one of the older original i-pods with the buttons above the click wheel. First of all i do not see anything that turns the power on. 2nd When i try to charge it, it does not show that it is charging on my computer.
3rd, do i need specific headphones for this i-pod or will the ones from my i-pod shuffle work?

it won't show that it's charging on the computer,it'll show that on the ipod screen. most likely it needs a new battery. you can reset it by following these instructions...

a friend of mine had the same ipod and i couldn't get it to hold a charge although i could get it to play while hooked up to the computer because the power was coming from the computer. after replacing the battery,it was as good as new...

you don't need specific headphones. any with a 1/8" stereo connection will work...

I really not know much about these, but, I do know Batteries go dead over time. The battery may need replaced. Again, I not know much about that either, but, would assume there are some screws to open it to replace the Rechargeable Battery Pack. If, it have a hole in the side for DC Voltage you may be able to use a wall adapter just be sure it have the same DC Volts Output that the iPod use and the correct plug-in. Amps should be enough to at least get the iPod up and running to learn more. You can actually make a Modified Battery Pack once you learn the Voltage of the Pack inside. I use the Rechargeable Battery Packs for Cordless Phones on a lot of things. Just have to learn how to mount it so it look good.
