Theres not really a ans were for that one, some people start to dialate then stop and can stay that way for a week or so before finally moving into actually labor and dilating more. Other people can be at a 1 and in three to 4 hours be at a 5. It just varies. If they did not admit your friend at the hospital then she still has some more time.

Every person, every pregnancy, every delivery, and every baby is different. Some women can go for weeks at 3 cm dialated, for others, 3 cm is a sure sign that the baby is on his/her way. There's more to delivery than just the dialation however. There's also effacement, which is the shortening of the cervix (dialation is the opening of the cervix). Then of course there are the contractions which help to push the baby out. Unfortunatly, there's no straight answer to your question. Anytime after 37 weeks though is considered a "full term" delivery... and a standard pregnancy runs about 40 weeks (sometimes a week or so longer... but then a doctor will decide weather to allow the pregnancy to continue or to induce labor/plan a c-section). Here's hopes that the baby comes when he/she is ready, and your friend has a healthy delivery and beautiful little baby in the next few weeks (or days)!

You can be dialated for a couple of week. I have heard of people being dialated to 2 for a couple of weeks. It is once she starts continuing to dialate that will begin her birth. She could also start dialating more at any time - so there is no real definite answer.

Everyone is different and every pregnancy is different. She could be starting to have contractions soon then again it could be a few days or even weeks. I was dilated @1 cm for over a week and then slowly moved to 3cm and still had almost another week go by for anything on my first baby. The second and third I dilated very quickly. Just be ready because babies come when they are ready not when your ready. lol Good luck to your friend :)

You have to dialate to 10 cm before you are ready. It usually takes a while for this to happen. I was in labor for 18 hours with both of my children. Don't hold your breath honey, she could be there a while.....

I was dilated to 3 cm. 4 weeks before my due date....and ended up being 3 days late! You can never tell exactly when you will go into labor...but there are some signs that tell you that it's going to be soon. If she is having contractions regularly, then she should obviously go to the doctor. I've had 4 children...it's not uncommon to be dilated for weeks before giving birth.

It can vary quite a lot from person to person. My sister is also quite pregnant, and she was told a couple of weeks ago that she was 3cm dilated, but she still hasn't had the baby.
