I bought a SIREN MP3 player from Walmart and there is a place to put a memory card but it says up to 1GB. What difference would it make? What would happen if I put a 2GB card in it?

does the memory card say "up to 1GB" or the MP3 player? if the card, then that means that you only can put 1GB of songs on that card. if the MP3 player, then that player can only accept up to 1GB card size, you probably either can't fit a 2GB card in it, or it won't recognize a bigger size card on its internal memory.

It is how it was designed , most likely it has to do with the firmware, and could see future updates to expand this to accept more memory, but likely now, a 2gb card won't work. It also might have to do with stability issues with current 2gb cards, or power useage, they might degrade the useability of the player due to errors, or perhaps they were just short sighted.

This is usually because of a memory controller limitation, but I haven't heard of a 1GB limitation, only the 128MB and 2GB limitations...

If you put a 2GB card in it, it might try to format (and erase all data off of) the card, and you'll only be able to use 1GB of it.
