Does a 30 - 40 min range sound average too much?

It depends entirely on your aptitiude for puzzles of this type, and the difficulty level of the particular puzzle itself.

Solving more and more puzzles will help you figure out the best way for you to go about doing so. As you get better and better at it, your average solving time will go down.

I have Sudoku software on my PC (from Pappocom Software) and I solve a puzzle or two just about every morning as part of my routine. This program can keep track of your average solving time, and it's fun to see it go down with practice.

I purchased the program from http://www.sudoku.com/

This site gives advice on how to solve the puzzles as well. Check it out.

For me to do a 3 times 3 grid rated difficult it takes me about 45 minutes.
Just learned how to do it so i'm kinda slow.
So 30 - 40 min sounds great to me.

For a difficult one maybe.. There are all sorts of different difficulties you see, the 'easy' ones take me 5-6 minutes, and the medium ones take me a little over 10 minutes, the hard ones can take me anywhere betwen 15-35 minutes.
