I just skip over those unless they're asking for help with spelling or grammar. Some people just can't help it because they didn't get a proper education, and a spelling checker won't help in some cases. See the poem below. Ann Owed two the Spelling Checker (original source unknown) This entire poem ran through a spelling checker (Microsoft Word 5.1 for Macintosh) without a single mistake being caught: Eye have a spelling checker It came with my Pea Sea It plane lee marks four my revue Miss steaks aye can knot sea. Eye ran this poem threw it, Your sure reel glad two no. Its vary polished in it’s weight My checker tolled me sew. A checker is a bless sing, It freeze yew lodes of thyme. It helps me right awl stiles two read, And aides me when aye rime. Each frays comes posed up on my screen Eye trussed too bee a joule The checker pours o’er every word To cheque sum spelling rule. Be fore a veiling checkers Hour spelling mite decline, And it were lacks or have a laps, We wood be maid to wine. Butt now bee cause my spelling Is checked with such grate flare, There are know faults with in my cite, Of nun eye am a wear. Now spelling does knot phase me, It does knot bring a tier. My pay purrs awl due glad den With wrapped words fare as hear. To rite with care is quite a feet Of witch won should be proud. And wee mussed dew the best wee can Sew flaws are knot aloud. Sow ewe can sea why aye dew prays Such soft ware four pea seas, And why I brake in two averse By righting want too pleas.

I am not disappointed, but bewildered because YA has a spell checker. Since they allow children on YA, grammar may go out the window. We have to remember that schools are passing children just to get rid of them, not because they were good in grammar.

Is it the biggest deal in the world? No. But, people who say it doesn't matter, or the person who said "we're not in high school anymore" are way off base.

The use of good spelling and grammar is a reflection of a person's intelligence. Think about it the next time you get a memo or e-mail from your boss that's full of errors....how does that make you feel about them getting paid more than you? I guarantee you think about it......unless you just don't give a crap in general, in which case your career bagging groceries or working at McDonalds is safe...

'Is anyone else disappointed by the grammar and spelling on YA?' would have been a better way to voice your concern.

Still, never mind eh?

I can't really get emotive about the grammar and spelling I just assume where the grammar and spelling is of a low standard it is indicative of the age and intelligence of that person. I just choose to disregard the opinions that they are espousing.

Crumbs...your brave even mentioning...you'll get a violation notice for violating someones human rights... (I won't spell properly if I don't want to). I am being Ironic with my reply. You will get ostracised mark my words.

I despair that in years to come that literature, will be written in mobile speak...what a woeful disaster that would be for all of mankind. No more lyrical and wonderful words to fuel the imagination of the story being told.

We are not in high school anymore, so it doesn't matter how people spell stuff as long as I can understand most of their sentences, it doesn't really matter to me.

The one thing that makes it hard for me to understand a sentence is when people use too many *short ways* of spelling such as PLZ(please), and DAT(that) and WIT(with).

If it becomes too hard for me to understand a person's question, then I stop myself and I don't even try to answer it.

Proper english and grammar are nice. They are a rarity and I appreciate them, but it doesn't matter as long as I can understand *most* of the sentence.

Take Care :-)

I am frequently amazed by the grammar, punctuation, spelling and reading comprehension on 'YA'.
Then I cheer myself up, when I realise that I am better than anyone else here.

Disappointed, yes. Surprised, no. Just another reason to privatize the education system.
