Think of all your interests & ask yourself if any of those could be expanded into a business. Just keep in mind...what's your expertise? What are your interests? What could you imagine yourself doing?
By researching the prospect of starting your own business -- what it entails, what you need to know, helpful hints, etc -- you'll feel better prepared to take that plunge.

Starting your own business takes a lot of courage or just plain ignorance of how many small businesses make it over 1 year. No one ever told me these things and I have been in business for some time now & am doing well. Many people will try to discourage you with stats like this. Ignore them & press on. It takes a rugged personality to start & run a business. Most people don't see any benifits for the first year or two but once thinks get rolling the benefits are great. I can't tell you what business to get into. However, I can say you need to do something you really like & will never get bored of. Good luck & congrats!

The three most important things in business is location, location, location. Regardless of what business you are in. You should choose something that interests you but that is not necessary. Many people go into business just for the sake of being on their own, regardless of what they do. When you decide check the yellow pages. Don't do something everyone else is doing, unless you are in a very large city. If you have the personality there is alot of money in selling. Many companies have independent salesman for their products. A friend sells room air cleaners. The company gives him a Mercedes to drive, but he is actually an independent businessman, completly on his own.
Look through ther yellow pages, you may get an idea from there.
GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!

To be successful and prosper in your own business, you business strategy should focus on whatever you do better than anyone else. Unless you are better than all other people trying to do the same thing, well you might earn your living, but you will never be truly successful.
The catch is that even though most people can probably do something better than anyone else, this something isn't necessary something that people would demand, and you could sell.
Most likely, you will also need to invest in your business (not time, under all circumstances you will have to spend night and day to be successful, but hard cash). The bigger the investment, the higher the risk, the bigger the potiential return.
To sum it up: To be truly successful with your business, you need to be better than everyone else, you need to be better at something that people actually want and are prepared to pay for and you will have to invest money in your business.
Sure, if you just want to earn a living, maybe you don't need to be outstanding. But then, why bother?

The location guy must have been thinking of real estate. Location is just one part of what they call the "Marketing Mix" or the 4 Ps Product, place, promotion, price.
Since we don't know you, don't know what resources you have, and don't know what skills you have it is impossible to suggest specifics.
Just look in your area and try to find a need people have that you can meet or look at what others are doing and see if you can do it better.
A lot of times you can just copy what others are doing if it is a market with lots of different participants.

I've heard the arms business is very lucrative, as is the sale of human organs over the internet.
The advantage of the latter is that you could start with your own but I'd advise you to begin by selling something you're never going to need such as your spleen or genitalia as you're not likely to get a taker for that brain of yours.
