Only answer I have about that is, Air America talk was available here in Phoenix. after Stern went to satellite radio, I started listening to Air America, as I enjoy all kinds of talk radio, but I cant stand Rush since he got busted for being a drug addict.. Air America had been on in the Valley since like May of 2005 and at first it pissed me off because some of the things they were saying sounded damn bad, the corruption going on in Iraq, the l;iterally BILLIONS of dollars which have disappeared over there, etc. So I started doiing my OWN research... and damn if they weren't right a whole BUNCH of the time.

In February 2006, a conservative radio station coalition bought the local station which ran Air America and turned into a local Christian talk format radio station. At this point I dont even know if its still operating, because I dont listen to it. At the time, the station's local DJs even commented on air about how the station was bought for something like 13 times its actual worth, and it seemed that could only be because of what programming it ran. It wasn't sold because Air America's ratings were poor here in the Valley, NO English speaking radio station is Number 1 overall here. It's rating had risen steadily, until October 2005, when the announcement about the imminent sale of the station was made.

So I can see where some more liberal stations would like to see some equal time doctrine in place. Why is free debate such a scary concept for some people?

Talk radio is the one place that Liberals are failing. If they had something that Normal Americans wanted to hear they would have an audience. They have to give stations cash to carry their shows. Right minded talk shows are thriving. They make millions. The Liberals want it shut down to quiet the truth. If they want fair time they can get their own shows.Let the market drive what is on the radio. That's like Country musicians suing a rap music station for fair time. The listeners don't want to hear it. Tell me what the Liberals want to say that doesn't have an outlet? They own the papers, magazines and Television.

You're question makes no sense. If a host had something to hide they would be fighting the fairness doctrine. That's apparently why republican hosts are fighting it and progressives are embracing it. God forbid there be someone on the same radio station who can point out how full of hot air Limbaugh is.

I see it as a good opportunity to get some fairness on the national media the liberals would love to shut down talk radio because they offer different perspective. This may be the best opportunity to inject some different points of view on the likes of CNN, CNBC, CBS, NBC, ABC, MSNBC and so on the doctrine could actually be turned around on them.

This is the stupidest question I have ever seen on this site. Someone complaining about the dems wanting the FCC to reinstate the fairness doctrine. I think you should be more worried about what the right has to hide, they are the ones who got rid of the fairness doctrine to begin with.

Which Democrats? some have expressed help for it, although those who count number the most--Obama and Pelosi--have come out adverse to it. i do not help it both, yet i imagine you do not understand how the doctrine worked even as it became in position years in the past. it would not take Rush or Hannity off the air. it would want to signify that if there became an hour of Rush, someone who disagrees with Rush might want to have a right to bypass on the air and reply for the same length of time. (subsequently the time period "fairness doctrine.") back, i do not help it. yet please, a minimum of understand what that is that you disagree with earlier you go back out adverse to it.

The "fairness doctrine" is just another government attack on the peoples' free speech rights.

Government has no right to dictate the contents of any media communication.

Do people understand how such a law is unconstitutional and also a threat to our rights and freedoms?

The "fairness" doctrine is anything but fair. It's a way to stop free speech, so naturally liberals are for such a thing.

Dennis Kucinich better heed the fact that right-wing pundits will also be able to refute the left's dreck.....this doctrine will work in both directions.....

Yes.
Democrat Politicians spend most of their time trying to hide Corruption.
And they hide what their Real Agenda is for this country: socialism/communism.
