no its used for protection and its only defense from predators. It is such a slow animal that if it didn't have a shell it would be extinct by now. Its home is its nest.

I say no.

The shell is a 2 piece protective covering consisting of the carapace on the top, which is fused to the vertebral column inside and joined to the plastron on the bottom.

A turtle's home is it's environment; the place in which the animal resides either in nature or captivity.
