Well my family reunion is help every two years... usually goes good until my mom starts drinking. Other then that ours actually goes good. Everyone gets a long and we have like over 200 people show up from all over the states. I think what helps ours out is we have ours in the park. So we can play football, volleyball and horseshoes. We even get to go fishing. So everyone is happy and never bored. Plus we have this pile of sawdust that we put out with change in it and we have a time limit starting with the 0-5 year olds, 6-10, 11-15, then 15-18, and if you get a quarter with a red dot you get a two dollar bill. It was fun when i was a kid. Plus we have a huge BBQ and everyone brings a dish to pass. I'm not sayin our family is perfect. We just let go of all grudges and have fun for the day.

It's sad, but family members, esp. at reunions, seem to want to out due all the other family members. Their very judgmental, always giving out unwanted advise, all to make them feel better about who they are and what they due for a living. They also can't seem to function without bringing up old news, They have little to add to a conversation with out slamming someone Else in the family in the process. It's much better to see them one on one instead of in a group setting.

That's why families have to have reunions. They would usually have nothing to do with each other otherwise. So they try to bite the bullet and stomach each other for a few hours so they can still claim to be a family. 20-30 minutes is all a lot of 'em can take and BOOM.

That is one reason I don't go to the family reunions. The way I see it is if I want to see a family member I just call them up and go visit them. They are alright one on one, but put all my family in one area and there will be another war before the day is over.

I've never known a reunion to be a disaster. But I guess old patterns reemerge and unresolved issues surface. If alcohol is served as well....well....you know. Drugs like that don't make relationships better.

well it is the same way at wedding receptions too. it seems like family uses excuses to create havoc at these certain events . Yes I know what you mean about the grandparents calming everyone down . My grandma used to do that . she would tell everybody to shut up over what happened 20 something years ago . Let it be was her favorite saying .Times have changed and now i do not even go to them anymore . good luck .

So that we are reminded that we do have potential a$$holeish genes also, to remind us how we can be should we not be careful with our own lives. Family reunions are true eye openers and also funny as hell. Now I know it is just not my family. Family you gotta love um.

My family is the same way. People assume that families just get along...THEY DONT.

My mother's side of the family is very wealthy, and things have gotten so bad, we no longer have family reunions.

It has alot to do with inheritance that was divided unequally...

It happens in all families. No family is immune to this sort of thing.
When my grand parents were alive this was not allowed to happen. They dealt with it and no one left a re-union angry or sad.
Since they passed away, it seems as if all the family does is criticize one another, and try to compete with one another financially. It's a sorry state of affairs in our family.

My cousin and i often talk about how great it use to be to have re-unions, now we just talk about it and can't fix it.

I think it's because people focus on thing that happened in the past rather than to have a good time.
