a bookmark is nothing more then a browser version of a shortcut...making a bookmark for a site will allow you to go back to a site without having to type the address...for something like google or yahoo this is a little weird since it's usually faster to just type it...but where bookmarks come into play is for sites or pages that have rather long or complicated addresses...or if you're on a site like ebay or amazon and see a product you'd like to come back to a bookmark will save you from writing down the entire address......

IE... instead of typing the entire address http://www.amazon.com/Dungeons-Dragons-Complete-Willie-Aames/dp/B000JBXY44/sr=1-1/qid=1168956035/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-6687623-9838431?ie=UTF8&s=dvd
a bookmark would take you right there...

When you bookmark a site, the computer saves the link and a title to that site for future reference. Using bookmarks keeps you from having to remember the web address for every site or look up the address every time. I've kept hundreds of bookmarks over the last few years and categorized them. Saving bookmarks saves time when you're looking for something online!

Jaime's right. The page address is held aside on a special list ("bookmarks" or "favorites") so you can get to it with just a click instead of having to remember the long URL address. Once you start collecting bookmarks, you can "manage" them by creating "folders", much like a paper filing system. All gaming sites could be in one folder, shopping in another, and so on.

When you bookmark a site, the URL is saved in a pull down menu that you can access from your browser (under, "bookmarks") instead of typing out the URL each time you go, basically.
