Man is consumed with being entertained these days, and nothing else. It's pretty sad when a 2 year old can name off over 50 brand names, because of commercials on TV and ads in magazines and on billboards. The fact of the matter is, people see what's happening, they just don't care. They would rather bury their heads in the sand, and blame bush, rather than do something about it. People comfortably assume these days that the government should take care of it, and that we no longer should be bothered with the mess we've made for ourselves. The government should tell us to mow our lawn, make our bed, brush our teeth etc. However, somehow we still have the right to gripe when things that the government does, doesn't go the way we want it to. Like, they told us to get skinny so we did, and now the atkins diet has turned how many people into anorexics? They told us to organize our homes, and throw out all the trash, instead of recycle. Now we have landfills in our backyards and we can smell trash as we drift off to sleep. This is really living the american dream!

I agree that you can elect to not take part in the digitalization of man, spend more time with your family and live a minimalistic lifestyle, but it would certainly limit the places you could live... probably want to go somewhere that isn't too expensive or has a really good welfare program (I'm thinking state-wise as well as city... though I suggest somewhere in Canada).
You could always slip and fall somewhere and sue the pants off of someone. That seems to be a popular thing to do these days. And haven't you seen the Lipozene commercial? It's not your fault that you got fat from sitting in front of the TV all day eating fried chicken and pork rinds. Don't put down that wing, just take Lipozene and it will make it all better. And really, nobody told you that eating 4 Big Macs a day was gonna make you fat. How were you ever supposed to know that?
Bottom line, like mentioned before, nobody cares. We've been trained to watch TV since we were little. I mean, all the flashy lights and moving pictures, how entertaining! And have you ever seen the data people use to market products? They've got every single one of us categorized, and they know where you live and they market to you accordingly. Seriously, it's nuts! Anything to keep American's from thinking too much for themselves.
But really, it's probably the government's fault. There's no way I'm to blame.
By the way... the Atkins diet didn't turn people into anorexics, Hollywood did that. Atkins just gave everyone heart disease and clogged ventricles. I mean, seriously, are you trying to tell me you believe that a pound of bacon in healthier than a piece of bread? Gimme a break...

Wow, are you depressed?
Families do have time to be families, if they choose that. My family chooses a less financially enriching lifestyle with my wife staying home with our kids. We give up having the $100/month cable packages, our cars are 1996 and older models and we eat modestly. But we enjoy each other and our lives. Having children is not an excuse for not living modestly.
You can choose to not be part of what you describe, or you can throw in the towel and try to get the best you can.

Wow. You are the first person who has ever spoken out about this. Congrats. Dude modernisation is focused on making the world a perfect place and in that order they are taking out the things that make the world perfect. As for you're question, we do these things because if we don't, we are ridiculed for being jobless and for being different.

It all comes down to selfishness, and demanding instant gratification. The Devil has sold most everyone a lie, and they go willingly to the slaughter. It sounds like you also are waking up a bit too late.
