Gamma rays are part of the invisible light in the electromagnetic spectrum in space. We can't see it, it is invisible to us. Gamma rays are the most energetic photons the electromagnetic spectrum. They are extremely powerful. They are used sometimes to inspect metal objects, in the process calles "Radiography." They are also used in Nuclear Medicine. And they can cause cancer.

Gamma rays are electromagnetic waves with very short wave length and very high energy content They are mainly used in sterilization which is killing or removal of any living microorganism from a preparation -Mode of action: -Direct(Target)effect:there's certain gene in the microbial cell sensitive to radiation,it's ionization by this radiation results in death of the cell -Indirect(target)effect:Water absorb(as the source of radiation is sunken in water-filled tanks) energy resulting in release of electron which are absorbed by anther water molecule leading to release of free radicals : OH radical,H radical, and HOO radical which gives O2 and H2O2 that have biocidal effect beside HOO radical and OH radical -The radio active isotopes are Co 60 an Cs 137 packed in metal rods -Gamma rays can penetrate human body and aluminum but cannot penetrate lead or concrete so for safety the source in housed within reinforced concrete building with walls 2m thick

If it is that important then try Wikipedia. It has much more than we can mention.

But for starters:
X-Ray photography for medical uses
X-Ray Crystallography to determine crystal structures
Gamma ray beams for destroying cancer cells in radiotherapy
