Their can be several reasons for your betta to be spitting out the food. They will spit out food and take it back in as a form of chewing, but if you notice that he isn't eating it and just spitting it out and letting it sink it is possible he doesn't like the food. Bettas can be kinda picky and it is just a matter of finding the brand or type of food he likes. Freeze dried blood worms are usually very well accepted. or for Pellet or flake food HBH betta bites, Hikari Betta Gold, and Omega one Betta flakes or pellets in that order seem to be popular with bettas.

Are you feeding him the proper food for your beta? They do eat dried blood worms. Just keep on eye on him and make sure he's not doing that all the time.

It means he doesn't really like what you're feeding him. Try getting him mosquito larvae or guppy fry (if you're game enough) and watch him go!! They prefer live food to anything else unfortunately..
