When you want to look your best, you need to select a dress that flatters both your body type, and your skin's undertones. Your body type will determine what cuts and styles will flatter your figure- highlightling your assets, and minimizing your flaws. The right colors will bring out your undertones, and make your skin glow.

Going on what you've listed, I assume "fair asian" refers to light olive skin, black hair, brown eyes. Which probably means you are a Winter.. And "petite" means you are under 5'5" or so, with a small bone structure, and narrow frame (no wide curves.) Which probably means you are a straight/pencil figure.

Since it's a formal prom, you'll want a longer dress. Look for darker colors to help make you look taller. Try an asmetrical hemline, or high-low, to add curves to your lower half. Pair it with a higher waistline, like an empire, to add curves to your torso, and emphasis your bustline. Wider set spaghetti straps and halters will help define shoulders Flowing fabrics, like crepe, chiffon, or Georgette, will gently shape your figure.

Try to avoid ankle length dresses with straight hemlines, which can actually shorten petite girls. Also avoid full skirts, A-lines and ballgowns, which overpower petite frames. More things to avoid: Stiff fabrics, like satin or taffeta, dropped waistlines, puffed sleeves, off the shoulder necklines, patterns, different colored sleeves or collars, wide belts or waistlines, and anything with too much decoration, like all over sequins.

A great place to look for an affordable dress is Deb. They have a wide selection of styles, without paying bridal and formal shop prices.

Hi! Olive green is a nice color for a formal gown. If you can find a dress of this color with a nice shiny material, and your skin as you've mentioned is fair, I believe it would look good on you. As for the cut of the dress, don't get a dress that's too long. This will make you look shorter. if it is not a requirement to wear a long evening gown then better go with something that is knee length. Try to show a little skin on the shoulders but not too much though. Also, I suggest that you wear a nice pair of high heels, you know most of the time it's the shoes that mkes an outfit. So good luck, I'm sure you'd look great in your prom!;)

Silky or sparkly white would look great. I'm a fair asain myself. The dress should be full length, with a slight cut on the side, but shallow. Small heels will match well along with teardrop earings. Most of your hair should be left down (if not all). Soft curls look great, or you could leave straight hair and get a clipped knot bun in the back. Make sure the neck is not to low, because that will ruin the whole posture of the dress. Go with a barely low neck, because it doesnt make you look cheap!

Have fun =)

I would go by the shape of your body. Are you shaped more like an apple--round in the gut or a pear--more like an hour-glass? People who are apple shape tend to do best with A-line dresses--straight form, no darts in the bust or gathers at the waist. Hour-glass people can go with almost anything. What do you want to accent? Let the dress play that part of you up. One of the best colors would be white for you. It would bring out your hair and skin tone. I would use the color of eye shadow you prefer to accent your eyes--it will go well with the white.

You would look good in shades of green and purple, and you can never go wrong with red. I'm assuming in this case "fair Asian" corresponds to light olive. Once you have the color, then it's easier to pick out the type of dress you would like to wear.

If you are a fair skined asain I would say white or black dress with a deep burgandy in it somewhere. Dont ask how I know I just do from a friend. The dress was bangin'. Good luck.
