I don't think that Velma or roxy came across particularly well in the film - they were both shown to be manipulative and out for what they could get.
Also Roxy was shown to get her comeupance when she thought she would be a big star but the media moved on to the next story.
There are lots of films about murder out there, why choose this one in particular.

And no, I did not think it was a great film, just trying to give a balanced view.

The girl didn't murder her husband - and he wasn't unfaithful. It was she that was unfaithful and it was her lover that was murdered. Why is any movied made? For entertainment.

Actually it was about a married woman who killed her married lover when she found out he lied about getting her into show business.

But to answer your question - all movies are made as a business venture. They make money from ticket sales, DVD sales, soundtrack sales, broadcasting rights, etc.

Why not. It is a very good & entertaining movie.
I like it. And I like the music. And the girls....

But to be perfectly honest with You :
I love "Cotton Club" too,
and I think "Cotton Club" is
the better movie.

Because it is a hit Broadway show and they knew it would make money. I have seen movies about things worse than that.
