Actually, the Earth is really fast, and not just floating. This speed combined with the gravitational effect between the earth and the sun is why the sun doesn't just swallow the earth and the earth doesn't just go flying off into space. Since both of these options would make the earth quite inhospitable, you'd better hope it stays that way!

it doesn't float, that assumes there is something to float in, which there is not in space.

earth is actually in a controlled and very delicate free fall with the moon, the sun and the other planets affecting it. since there is no friction in space, earth want to keep going in its direction, but the sun wants to pull it in, so instead of going on definite way (into sun or current path) it takes the middle ground, and so you get a circlular path around the sun.

Says who... The earth does not float in the space. The whole universe is in a motion. Either falling, or ripping. Its just like when you struggle in deep waters. you don't know which direction you are going into, but you keep struggling and moving.

The earth is in motion with respect to itself and the sun. The sun along with the whole of its solar system is in motion with respect to our galaxy. And the whole galaxy is in motion with respect to probably some other larger space body.

Earth is not floating. It is following the gravitational pull of the Sun in its orbit.

It's not "floating". It's simply following Newton's laws in an orbit around the sun.

The earth doesn't "float"... it is pulled into orbit around the sun by the sun's gravity.

the earth isnt floating.....
it is revolving around the sun in a fixed orbit
and the solar system is revovling around the centre of the milky way galaxy.

It's not. It is perpetually falling toward the sun (in a gravitational orbit). Check out Newton's Principia.

Because it can. In space there is no up or down so it wouldn't know where to go anyway.
