Certainly most any substance diluted loses properties, and you don't state your use or desired use for it. I notice one answer states Bug Killer, and certainly it's effective as such, but will also "kill" anything else surrounding the "bug"

In your pool the other answer is correct.

The better news however is that at some point, once diluted it will manage its way back into the Earth, though at some point in time, Everything we force the planet to ingest will be regurgitated.

as long as it's protected it will last for years...once it's in water, it will lose it's sanitary properties within a few days unless you use a stablizer with it. I'm assuming you are using it for a pool or spa. Hot water or sunlight can "burn it off" more quickly, as well as heavy bather load, and some of the yucky things people do in pools.
